How to uninstall SpaceUp Mac
Last updated:
To uninstall SpaceUp Mac, quit the app, drag it from your Applications folder to the Trash, and empty the Trash. That is the whole process. SpaceUp Mac runs no background daemons or helper processes, so nothing keeps running once the app is gone.
If you want a spotless exit, there are exactly two small traces you can also remove: a preferences file and two entries in your login Keychain. Both are covered below, along with one honest reason you might want to keep them.
Uninstall in three steps
- Quit the app. If the menu bar icon is showing, quit that from its menu too.
- Drag SpaceUp Mac from Applications to the Trash. Right-click and choose Move to Trash if you prefer.
- Empty the Trash.
If you added the desktop widget, it disappears with the app. There is no uninstaller to run because there is nothing else to undo.
One extra bit of tidying if you granted Full Disk Access: open System Settings, go to Privacy & Security, then Full Disk Access, and remove SpaceUp Mac from the list.
Optional: remove the last two traces
Uninstalling leaves behind two things, both tiny and both inert.
| What | Where |
|---|---|
| Preferences file | ~/Library/Preferences/com.spaceupmac.app.plist |
| Two login Keychain entries | Login keychain, search “spaceupmac” |
The preferences file. In Finder, choose Go, then Go to Folder, paste the path above, and move the file to the Trash. Or from Terminal:
defaults delete com.spaceupmac.app
The Keychain entries. Open Keychain Access (in Applications, then Utilities), select the login keychain, and search for “spaceupmac”. You will find two entries: com.spaceupmac.license, which holds your license activation, and com.spaceupmac.app, which is the marker for your free first clean. Delete both.
Before you do, know why they exist: they are kept in the Keychain so your license and your free clean survive a reinstall. If there is any chance you will come back, leave them alone. They take up no meaningful space and do nothing on their own.
What does not get left behind
Some apps are famous for surviving their own uninstall. This one is not. After the steps above there are:
- No background daemons or launch agents
- No helper apps waiting to relaunch at login
- No processes running after you quit
Everything SpaceUp Mac does happens while the app is open, on your Mac, with no account attached.
Reinstalling later
Download the DMG again from the homepage and drag it back into Applications. If you kept the Keychain entries, your license and free-clean status are picked up automatically. If you removed them, enter your license key and the app reactivates.
