The short version

SpaceUp Mac keeps everything on your Mac, with two exceptions you should know up front, both on the direct download version. To unlock and reconfirm a paid license, the app sends your license key and your Mac's name to our licensing provider, Lemon Squeezy. And if you allow it, the app checks our website for updates, a request that carries the app's name and version and nothing about you. Nothing else is transmitted, and your files never leave your computer.

Those two checks aside, the app has no accounts, no analytics, no trackers, and no servers of ours that store anything about you, and it never sends your files or anything about their contents anywhere. Later launches reconfirm the license by sending the key and the activation ID Lemon Squeezy assigns, still never any file data. The sections below spell out exactly what each check involves, what stays on your Mac, and what your payment provider handles when you buy.

1. Who we are

SpaceUp Mac ("the app", "we", "us") is a macOS utility that helps you free up disk space by finding and removing junk files your Mac can rebuild. It is developed and published by IRSHAD PC. You can reach us at [email protected].

2. What we do not collect

Apart from the license check described in Section 5 and the optional update check described in Section 6, SpaceUp Mac collects and transmits none of the following, ever:

The app contains no analytics frameworks and no advertising SDKs, and it never sends your file data anywhere. The direct download version includes Sparkle, a widely used open-source updater for Mac apps distributed outside the App Store, which contacts only our own website and only if you allow it (Section 6). The other exception is the license check on the direct download version: it transmits your license key, your Mac's name (the name set in System Settings, which may include your first name, like "Alex's MacBook Air"), and, on later launches or when you click Deactivate This Mac, the activation ID that Lemon Squeezy assigns your device. That is the only identifying information the app sends, it goes only to Lemon Squeezy to verify your purchase, and it is detailed in full in Section 5. The update check sends no identifying information of its own, though, like any web request, it reveals your IP address to our hosting provider. On the Mac App Store version, when available, purchases are handled by Apple's own StoreKit, which talks to the App Store itself.

3. What happens on your Mac

To do its job, SpaceUp Mac reads information about files on your Mac: file names, sizes, locations, and system metadata such as when an app was last opened. This information is processed entirely on your Mac, in memory, and shown to you inside the app so you can decide what to remove. It is never written to any log, never uploaded, and never shared. The only exceptions to "nothing leaves your Mac" are the license check described in the Purchases section, which carries your license key and Mac's name, and, if you allow it, the update check described in Section 6. Neither carries anything about your files.

When you choose to remove something, what happens depends on the item, and the app tells you before you clean. Your own files, such as large files and uninstalled apps, are moved to the Trash so you can undo. Rebuildable junk, such as caches, logs and temporary files, is cleared directly. A few clearly labeled items, such as old device backups, are removed permanently, and the app says so on the item itself. No file data is transmitted anywhere in the process.

4. Permissions, and why the app asks for them

SpaceUp Mac asks for access to your files (through Full Disk Access on the direct download version, or a folder picker on the Mac App Store version). This permission is used for exactly one purpose: measuring and cleaning the folders you can see inside the app. You can revoke it at any time in System Settings, and the app keeps working with whatever access remains.

The app never uses this access to read the contents of your documents, photos, messages, or anything else personal. It looks at names, sizes, and dates, because that is all a storage cleaner needs.

5. Purchases

SpaceUp Mac has an optional one-time upgrade, and how it is handled depends on where you got the app.

Direct download version. The upgrade is sold and processed by Lemon Squeezy, our payment and licensing provider (they act as Merchant of Record), under their own privacy policy. We never see your card number or billing information. To activate your upgrade, the app sends your license key and your Mac's name to Lemon Squeezy so it can verify the license. On later launches it reconfirms the license by sending the key and the activation ID Lemon Squeezy assigned. If you click Deactivate This Mac (in About SpaceUp Mac), the app sends that same key and activation ID to Lemon Squeezy so it can free the activation for another Mac, then removes the license from this Mac. No file data is ever sent.

Mac App Store version (when available). The upgrade is handled by Apple through in-app purchase. Apple handles your payment details; we never see your name, card number, or billing information. The app receives only an anonymous confirmation from Apple that the purchase or restore is valid, and that confirmation stays on your Mac.

6. Updates

Direct download version. The app can check for new versions with Sparkle. It asks first: on the second launch it offers to check automatically, and nothing is sent unless you agree. If you agree, it checks about once a day. You can also check any time with Check for Updates in the app menu. The same prompt offers to download and install updates automatically; if you tick that too, new versions download in the background and install when you quit.

Each check is a plain request for a small update file on spaceupmac.com. It carries the app's name and version and the updater's version and, like any web request, your IP address, which our hosting provider processes as described in Section 8. It sends no license key, no Mac name, no system profile, and nothing about your files. When a new version is available and you choose to install it, or you've turned on automatic installs, the app downloads it from spaceupmac.com and verifies its signature before installing it. We don't log or store update checks.

Mac App Store version. Updates come from the App Store, and the app makes no update check of its own.

7. What we receive from Apple

Once the Mac App Store version is live, we will see the aggregate, anonymized statistics that Apple provides to every developer (for example, total downloads and sales by country). These numbers contain no personal information and cannot be traced to you.

8. Our website

This website (spaceupmac.com) is a static site. We run no analytics, no trackers, and no advertising on it, and we set no cookies. Our hosting provider processes standard request data (such as IP addresses) transiently to deliver the site and protect it from abuse, under its own privacy policy. The app itself reaches the website only for the optional update check in Section 6, which carries no personal data beyond the IP address any request reveals. See the Cookie Policy for details.

9. Data sharing and selling

We do not share, sell, rent, or trade any data with anyone, and we never will. We hold almost no data of our own, and what little a purchase involves sits with our providers, not in a database of ours to sell. The only third parties involved are the ones that process a purchase and license when you choose to buy the upgrade: our payment and licensing provider (Lemon Squeezy) on the direct download version, and Apple on the Mac App Store version. Each handles that transaction under its own privacy policy, and neither receives any data about your files. If you allow update checks, our website's hosting provider sees those requests the way it sees any visit to the site.

10. Data retention

We keep no data of yours on servers of ours, because the app has none of yours to send there. The one place records of a purchase live is with Lemon Squeezy, which retains the purchase and license information (including your license key and Mac's name) under its own privacy policy so your license keeps working. When you delete SpaceUp Mac, what remains on your Mac is: its preferences file, a few small cache folders macOS keeps for the app's network requests and updates, two small entries in your login Keychain (your license activation and a marker that the one free cleanup was used, kept there so they survive a reinstall), and whatever your past cleanups left in the Trash. All of that stays on your Mac. You can remove the Keychain entries yourself in Keychain Access by searching for "spaceupmac".

11. Your rights (GDPR, CCPA, and similar laws)

Privacy laws around the world, including the GDPR and CCPA, give you rights to access, correct, export, and delete personal data that companies hold about you. SpaceUp Mac is built to hold as little as possible: the app keeps your data on your Mac. The limited exception is the information a purchase involves, processed by our provider Lemon Squeezy as Merchant of Record, and, on the direct download version, the license key and Mac's name the app sends to verify your license.

To access, export, or delete that information, email us at [email protected] and we will help, including passing requests to Lemon Squeezy where the records sit with them. If you are in the European Economic Area, you also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.

12. Children

SpaceUp Mac is a general-purpose utility, not directed at children. Beyond the license information described above, it gathers no personal data from anyone, children included, so no parental-consent mechanisms are needed.

13. Security

Since your files and personal data stay on your Mac, their security is the security of your Mac itself. The app is code-signed and notarized by Apple and distributed as a direct download today (with the Mac App Store to follow), your own files go to the Trash so they can be undone while rebuildable junk is cleared directly, and the app never runs with elevated privileges or asks for your administrator password to scan or clean. Installing an update on the direct download version can ask for it if your account can't write to the folder the app is in. Updates are signed, and the app verifies each one before installing it.

14. Changes to this policy

If SpaceUp Mac ever changes in a way that affects privacy (for example, if a future version added optional crash reporting), we will update this policy before that version ships, change the date at the top, and make the change obvious in the app's release notes. The commitment stands: no silent changes.
